Flaming Chicken Adventure Race Rules

The following AR rules were created so all athletes can take part and compete in a positive, fun and fair environment. The rules are intended to encourage good sportsmanship and to safeguard the health and safety, of racers.  Please read through the rules carefully.

  • Each team will be provided with Maps, Passport and Passport Instructions.
  • Lay It Out Events reserves the right to alter or change the rules, course, route and stages of the race/event at any time due to a real or perceived threat to the safety of the racers.
  • Rule changes announced on race day take precedence over previously established rules.
  • Failure to assist seriously injured racers will result in disqualification and impact future participation in Lay It Out Events Races.
Support crew:
  • Teams may have a support crew for this race (in transition areas only) but they are not necessary.
Race numbers:
  • Racers are required to wear official race numbers at all times during the race.
Gear Checks:
  • Racers are subject to gear checks at any point on the course.  Please help expedite this process by knowing where your gear is at all times.
  • Racers must comply in a timely and friendly manner with race staff instructions.
Hydration/Nutrition:
  • Racers are responsible for their own hydration and nutrition.  There will be water available on the course.
Course-Route:
  • Racers are required to follow the course-route when designated and stay out of restricted areas.
  • Any racers entering restricted areas will be disqualified immediately.
Environment:
  • Please help us out by practicing leave no trace methods.  Pack it in, pack it out.
  • Please keep to designated trails and roads when possible
  • There will be bonus prizes for racers who bring back litter from the course.
Cut off times:
  • Cut off times are strictly enforced.
  • Locations and times will be provided prior to the race start.
  • Race Officials will inform teams that reach cut-off locations if they may: a) proceed on the long course, b) detour to the short course, or c) return directly to the start/ finish area.
  • Official finishing time is determined from the official race start until all members from a team have crossed the finish line.
Check Points (CP’s):
  • Racers will find CP’s through orienteering and navigation.
  • CP's will be marked with Orange and White orienteering flags. Yellow flagging will also mark the CP in case orienteering flags are eaten by bears or go missing for other reasons.
  • Racers must find CP’s in the order established by the race organizers.
  • Most CP’s will be unstaffed, however there will be a select few with staff (expect gear checks).
  • In the unlikely event a CP marker AND the yellow flagging are both missing, note the area with memorable features (write them down or take a photo and move on).
  • Missing a CP or arriving at a CP out of order will disqualify your team.
  • If your team misses a CP you will have the opportunity to go back and find it – time permitting.  (Race officials will determine if there is time).
Team Rules
  • Team members must stay within 50 meters of each other throughout the race.
Time Penalties
  • Time penalties will be enforced for any violation of the event rules.
  • Time penalties will be added to the team’s finish time.
